Leon Botstein, Conductor

Leon Botstein, Conductor

Leon Botstein has been music director and principal conductor of the American Symphony Orchestra since 1992, and is conductor laureate of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, where he served as music director from 2003–11. He is also the founder and artistic codirector of the SummerScape Festival and the Bard Music Festival, now in its 23rd year. He has been president of Bard College in New York since 1975. Mattie Ullrich has previously designed costumes for Bard SummerScape’s productions of The Sorcerer, Les Huguenots, and The Distant Sound. Recent opera work includes Nabucco (Washington National Opera, Minnesota Opera, and Opera Company of Philadelphia); The Rape of Lucretia (Norwegian Opera); The Tales of Hoffman and Zaide (Wolf Trap Opera); and a revised version of Stephen Shwartz’s musical Working, with new songs by Tony Award–winner Lin-Manuel Miranda.
