A musical in two acts by Dmitrii Shostakovich

Directed by Francesca Zambello
Music direction and adaptation by Sergei Dreznin
Cori Ellison, dramaturg
Daniel Pelzig, choreographer
G.W. Mercier, set and costume designer
Mark McCollough, lighting designer
Jan Hartley, projection designer

Shostakovich’s only musical, Moscow: Cherry Tree Towers (Cheryomushki) may also be the only musical, other than Rent, to celebrate the joys of communal housing. Named for a 1950s’ Moscow housing project that promised paradise to its residents, Cherry Tree Towers is a tale of love and corruption, with a level of social commentary that was just barely permissible in the post-Stalin U.S.S.R. Zambello, the director of The Nose, presents this chamber version with a roster of international performers and a cabaret band.

Tickets: $35
