Dostoevsky said that all Russian literature comes out of Gogol’s Overcoat. So it is fitting that Petersburg Tales opens with the Bulgarian Credo Theatre’s two-person clown show of Gogol’s tale of Akakey Akakievich, the poor St. Petersburg clerk whose soul is smothered by a long-dreamed-of overcoat. Credo has played this production in eight languages around the world, winning many awards.
