1941, directed by William Wyler
Bette Davis again schemes unforgettably as
the brilliant and ruthless matriarch of a once-wealthy Southern clan facing the doom of its old-world splendor at the turn of the 20th century. Davis is joined by the Broadway cast of the stage hit by Lillian Hellman, whose glinting dialogue in her own film adaptation adds to yet another legendary Wyler-Davis collaboration. The play and film were the inspiration for Marc Blitzstein’s opera Regina, to be performed in the Sosnoff Theater July 29 through August 6.
