Set amidst the glittering splendor of 19th-century Paris, Camille tells the tragic story of Marguerite Gautier, a beautiful, self-possessed prostitute who knows that money is everything. Marguerite's tale is a reflection of myth and reality. The play is based on a novel by Alexandre Dumas fils entitled La Dame aux camelias, which in turn was inspired by a real-life woman named Marie Duplessis.
