This preview performance is the culmination of a two-part Professional Training Workshop, in partnership with the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall, which commissioned eight young composers to write new vocal works for the 18 singers also selected to participate. Thirteen of the singers are students in the Graduate Vocal Arts Program at the Bard College Conservatory of Music, and five singers were chosen by competitive application. These composers and vocalists, under the guidance of composer Osvaldo Golijov and soprano Dawn Upshaw—who have collaborated on such acclaimed new work as Ayre and Ainadamar—rehearsed and developed the new commissions for a week in October at Bard. They come together again to preview the final compositions at Fisher Center before their premiere on May 9 and 10 at Carnegie Hall.
Composers participating in this workshop include:
Jeremy Flower, Judd Greenstein, Matti Kovler, Lena Langer, David T. Little, Paola Prestini, Kate Soper, and Lev “Ljova” Zhurbin.
