Leon Botstein conducts three 20th-century works that all premiered in the U.S.—including the rarely heard Scherzi musicali of African American composer Ulysses Kay, who taught at Lehman College in the Bronx for twenty years—along with Haydn‘s regal Maria Theresa Symphony, performed for the Holy Roman Empress in 1773.
