This summer’s film series takes a look at some of the major works of Aaron Copland’s contemporary and one-time collaborator, the Hollywood director William Wyler, who, like Copland, achieved considerable distinction in the 1930s and ’40s for his now classic treatment of a wide variety of American themes. Wyler’s works are presented with films from the same era that not only represent remarkable collaborations among distinguished American artists (directors, composers, writers, photographers, and actors), but also feature important and influential scores by Copland and Virgil Thomson.
