John Cage Tribute: “Lecture on the Weather”

Lecture on the Weather, a 1975 multimedia stage work composed by John Cage in collaboration with Maryanne Amacher and Luis Frangella, was commissioned by the Canadian Broadcast Company in observance of the American bicentennial. Based on the texts of Henry David Thoreau, it is scored for 12 speaker-vocalists or -instrumentalists, sound recordings, and film.
Performers include Leon Botstein, Merce Cunningham, Sage Cowles, Jasper Johns, Kevin Klose, Garry Kvistad, Mikel Rouse, John Ralston Saul, and musicians from The Bard College Conservatory of Music and Music Program. Presented in honor of the permanent placement of the John Cage Trust at Bard College, and organized in conjunction with a residency of Merce Cunningham, Cage’s longtime partner and collaborator, and the MCDC, at Dia:Beacon.
