The Bard College Conservatory of Music presents the third annual Concerto Competition this November.
The preliminary round is held in Olin Hall on Sunday, November 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; the final round is held in the Sosnoff Theater of the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts on Monday, November 19, at 7:00 p.m.
The public is invited to view the competition; no reservations are necessary. Winners of the competition will perform as soloists with the American Symphony Orchestra at Bard’s Fisher Center in the 2008–09 season.
Twenty-one students from the Conservatory are participating in the competition. The judges are Calvin Wiersma, violinist with the Manhattan String Quartet; Susan Wadsworth, founder and director of Young Concert Artists, Inc., which is dedicated to discovering and launching the careers of gifted musicians (including Murray Perahia, Pinchas Zukerman, Emanuel Ax, Richard Goode, and Dawn Upshaw); Todd Palmer, clarinetist, winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions and Concorso Internazionale di Musica in Trieste, Italy; and Leon Botstein, president of Bard College and music director and principal conductor of both the American Symphony Orchestra in New York and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the radio orchestra of Israel.
