Jazz at Lincoln Center
July 19
At the Summer Jazz Academy Combo Showcase, small groups of the world’s most talented jazz students play music from a range of composers and styles. From hot jazz of the 1920s to modern compositions and student arrangements, the program covers a broad swath of jazz history and will showcase the incredible talents of the next generation of leading jazz musicians.
Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Summer Jazz Academy is the premier high school program for advanced high school jazz students. This two-week program, designed and instructed by a world-class team of faculty-in-residence, serves as a rigorous training institute for 45 of the most advanced and dedicated high school jazz students. Students participate in big bands and small combos and receive private lessons and classes in aesthetics, culture, history, and performance practice.
The mission of Jazz at Lincoln Center is to entertain, enrich, and expand a global community for Jazz through performance, education, and advocacy. Over the past almost four decades, Jazz at Lincoln Center has become an important advocate for jazz, culture, and arts education globally. Each year, JALC reaches an audience of more than 3 million people of all ages and experiences through concerts, tours, musical instruction across our cadre of education programs, sheet music, recordings on our label Blue Engine, and live and VOD performances on our platform JAZZ LIVE.
